Pastor,
I have a quick question. This sounds like a dumb question and I want you to know that I am sending this out to 100 Pastors. Some of you know and some of you don't know that I am a Christian film critic for www.christianhotspot.com . I went and saw a movie the other day that to be honest, I loved. It was the Harry Potter movie. I know, I somewhat felt guilty and as I was writing my review and after talking to my brother, I felt that should be very careful about condoning a movie without offering a more Biblical perspective besides my view of apparent Biblical messages that I saw throughout the movie. I am NOT equipped to put up a fight against the Harry Potter movie, however I can create a case for the awesome positive lessons in this latest movie. I know that sounds wrong, and I am not even saying I am right, but I am saying I question myself enough to not publish a positive review without having someone else write a review as well.
My Question: Would you be interested in going to see the new Harry Potter movie and then writing a review of the movie so that I can publish it next to mine. I am guessing I will not get many or any takers, but if you could see where I am coming from, maybe that would help. I have about 30,000 weekly readers that totally disagree with one another about the books and movies. Personally I am in the middle.
Things to think about when writing the review:
Why is Wizard of Oz ok but Harry Potter is bad (Bad and Good Witch)
Why is Lord of the Rings ok but Harry Potter is bad (Gandolf is a Male Witch – a Wizard)
Why is Cinderella ok but Harry Potter is bad (Fairy God Mother = Good Witch)
Honestly I am not saying you have to give it a negative review. I just want more honest perspective and one that is Biblically sound. Does that make sense.
The reason: I believe that when someone writes something to the Christian community, they are accountable before God for the content and for the Biblical merit. I do not want to be even on smidgen wrong.
Please do not send me emails telling me how terrible I am for even seeing the movie in the first place. ( I get enough of that. ) I saw the movie at a Pre Screening as always and I will always review movies that kids are going to see, so that I can either dissway parents or encourage them.
What are your thoughts?
John
